Case Study: Faculty-Focused Fun

THE MISSION: Andy S., a department chair at the Head-Royce School, was planning a faculty retreat for the English department's 16 teachers. With a limited budget and staying close to home, he wanted the teachers to participate in a fun and lively activity that would reference the school curriculum.

OUR GAMEPLAN: The Wise Guys customized our popular FUNCYCLOPEDIA puzzle-hunt to fit in Oakland's Jack London Square. We incorporated books from the school's curriculum in our challenges: players staged photo re-enactments of literary moments from works like Macbeth (washing off bloody hands in the bathroom of a bar) and the Odyssey (PICTURED: Odysseus tied to the mast of his ship to avoid the song of the Sirens).

THE REWARDS: "We loved the game.  LOVED it.  Folks are still raving.  You made me look like a freakin' genius for hiring you two... Really, truly, you guys are masters -- the wit and the damned cleverness in the clues is pretty stunning.  And it was just the ideal game for a group like our bookish selves." -Andy S.

Case Study: Convention Attention

THE MISSION: Mark H. works for BRC Imagination Arts, a Burbank company that creates immersive multi-media installations for museums. The American Association of Museums hosted its annual conference in LA, and Mark wanted his company to stand apart from the other vendors and generate buzz for its booth.

OUR GAMEPLAN: Wise Guys Events created a web-based challenge played with a QR-code reader that conference attendees could download on their phones. We developed original puzzle games inspired by BRC's installations at the Lincoln Museum, Kennedy Space Center (PICTURED), Heineken Brewery, and others. Solving the entire game gave players the location of a party BRC was throwing, where you could turn in your completed game card for a free drink.

THE REWARDS: “The Smartphone Challenge that you helped us create for the 2010 American Association of Museum Conference made a big impression. It helped us promote our company, show-floor booth and an exclusive mystery event for those who completed the game challenges. But most importantly, it added an element of fun and play to an otherwise very traditional conference setting.” - Mark H.

Case Study: Non-Profit Nonsense

THE MISSION: Justin P. was planning an event for the Center for Student Missions, a non-profit that helps young Christians' philanthropic travel. The staff of CSM was flying in from around the country and wanted a team-building event, rain or shine.

OUR GAMEPLAN: To welcome the out-of-state players and get the whole group playing together, we played the downtown LA version of our cell-phone scavenger hunt CLOCKWISE. Despite some heaven-sent precipitation (PICTURED), players searched, solved, and laughed their way around some of downtown LA's most iconic landmarks, including the central library and the Standard Hotel rooftop bar, with a minimum of sogginess thanks to the colorful ponchos Wise Guys distributed at the start.

THE REWARDS: “Let me say thank you so much for putting the game together. My group had an awesome time and really enjoyed it, even with the rain. You guys did such a great job and the videos at the end were great. Thanks so much with working with our budget and I will be talking you guys up to other people: If you want a great Team Building activity this is it.” - Justin P.
